I know others have, but I've never had anything stolen at MNL, at least not that I've ever noticed. I usually don't have a lock on my checked luggage either. It's always a risk, but not one I'd overly stress about. Can always get some travel insurance, I assume they'd cover theft by airline employees, but double check and figure out how to document it ahead of your trip what you have inside.
I'm flying J-class SYD (QF) - MNL (EY) - AUH in October with a 7-hour layover in MNL. I'll be HBO.

It's 2 separate tickets, but I'm hoping that it will all go relatively smoothly.

How much worse than transiting in CGK or CAI can it be?
