Of course I heard about Tesla before (and was inside one before, as passenger) but it's the first time I hear about Polestar.
If I had the choice between a Tesla and a Polestar, I would pick a Tesla if the rate is comparable. Here are the reasons:

- Tesla can charge essentially everywhere that is Level 2 (J1772 adapter should be included) or Tesla destination charger (Tesla Plug) or Tesla Supercharger. And for road trips I would likely bring my CCS adapter if I was expecting to rent a Tesla.

- I own a Tesla and am familiar with the ins and outs of the settings and operation of the vehicle.

For the Polestar you would choose J1772 and CCS in the PlugShare filters. CCS is the fast charging standard that is currently supported by most non-Tesla vehicles and a bunch of charging networks. You may have seen in the news that many manufacturers adapting the Tesla standard (officially named North American Charging Standard), but that is still a year or so away from showing up IRL anywhere on a rental lot.

Polestar is a subsidiary of Volvo (wikipedia) focused on making EVs. I have never had a chance to rent one, but would be open to trying one when it’s the right trip profile.
