Becasue we have AS miles and not Avios or AA miles becasue AS miles are easier to earn by actually flying on reasonably priced tickets. I just used my last AA miles earned in the short period if time that AA flights didn't earn AS miles for an upgrade on an AA flight yesterday.

I got a very good deal on IB using AS miles last winter. Couldn't get the any flights to show on AA.com.
