Regarding your first Edit: If you didn't have breakfast included in your rate, "breakfast in restaurant per night of Stay for Member +1" would be the best Welcome Gift choice (except for guests who never eat breakfast or who only eat breakfasts at local, non-hotel restaurants). The two remaining choices are "1,000 Points per Stay" (not per night) or "F&B amenity" (which could be generous or worthless, depending on what the resort provides), I would ask what the amenity is and then make your decision.

Regarding your Edit 2: Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort is not a Marriott Vacation Club. It's a resort branded as a Marriott. There's also Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos, Garabito, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Different name. Different Welcome Gift rules. Different elite benefits. If you're at Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, you're not at the Marriott Vacation Club.

Ideally, the resort will recognize your Platinum Elite status with a decent upgrade (although not necessarily a suite).
The listing for the the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos is inaccurate. It isn't in Puntarenas, it is actually adjacent to the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort and shares the same address.

800 METERS WEST OF HERRADURA ENTRANCE, HERRADURA, COSTA RICA, 028-4023.

The Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos listing shows restaurants and other amenities that are located in Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort. You can see the two properties in the satellite image. Note the covered walkway connecting the two.

The Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort is a beautiful property. The beach isn't the best but the pool area is stunning with a swim-up bar.

I have been there three times. The Elite recognition was fantastic. Breakfast as a welcome amenity was amazing & each time as a Titanium Elite, I was upgraded to a suite, before arrival. Very friendly & efficient staff and a sense of Pride prevailed.
