Booking a points stay for a friend when account holder not co-guest

I know I can book stays for friends and family using points without my traveling with them, but when I tried to do this online the system would not let me delete myself as a guest. It only let me add the person (my spouse) as a "co-guest", with the co-guest having checkin privileges. I called the HH line and explained that only my spouse would be there, not me, and asked how to do it. The foreign call center lady said she would handle what I wanted and send an emal, but the email I got still just shows me as a guest with the other person as a co-guest, so 2 people in the room, which I could have done online without phone assistance (supposedly the co-guest will have check-in privileges). If this is the way they really do it, fine, but it seems weird that the reservation shows there will be two guests, with me as the booker, and my spouse just as a co-guest. It doesn't reflect reality, which makes me suspicious it wasn't done right.
Has anyone had trouble getting the person they booked a room for to be able to check in without the account holder being there, when the person showing up to check in is only the co-guest?
