However, unfortunately EC261 is really weak on reimbursement for journeys under 1,500km at only 30%. At that point, you're far better off with a full refund of the upgrade cost because that's bound to have more value than 30% of any YQ paid on the award ticket plus that upgrade price.
I have now received a refund of the upgrade amount (€140 x 2) so I’m no worse off than before and I’ve put in a complaint, referring to EC261 but not explicitly asking for anything. Just raising it as a simple issue that they could fix with a few technical changes. It may lead to nothing and I rarely fly Aegean anyway. I only chose them as I needed that small push to send me over the threshold to Gold with SQ later this year.
