I've noticed AA flyers themselves are more prone to keeping the shades closed especially if they are already closed when they board. It really does make it feel a bit claustrophobic when the entire plane is dark during a daytime flight and isn't one of the benefits of a window seat having the ability to look outside and enjoy the scenery??
