I’d suggest routings to VIE. There a seem to be some options available there.
For example leave October 6 return October 24. You can do full J with the TATL on LH and then connect through on OS to VIE (that second short flight will just be “European” business class, but the TATL will be lay flat)
You can do that for 140,000 points plus $236 right now.
Vienna is nice because there’s good onward rail connections or you could book a revenue fare on OS to go elsewhere. Train from Vienna to Budapest is fast and nice, if you have interest there. Belgrade is a cheap city but pretty gritty. You could also look at Sarajevo if you have interest in Yugoslavian history around the war. Or stick to your thought of heading to Czech or Croatia from there.
I can’t remember the current rules around open jaws on rewards, years back I did YYZ to VIE (stopover in Brussels) and then back from AMS to YYZ and it worked out wonderfully just booking trains and intra Europe flights to connect around a bunch of places. That might be getting into questions more appropriate for the “complex” thread on this forum though.
Even a simple round trip to VIE gives a lot of good options with onwards ground transport though!
Thank you wjw!!! This is just the type of flight I am looking for! Wish Air Canada made it easier to search and find these types of reward flights. Close to booking....going to try and adjust with an open jaw.
