So, an update on how things ended up with my ticket in case this is helpful to anyone in a similar situation in the future.
My original booking was:
GLA-LHR (BA) 31 July
LHR-DFW (BA) 31 July
DFW-LHR (AA) 3 August
LHR-GLA (BA) 4 August
I flew segment 1, boarded segment 2 before being asked to be offloaded. When I spoke to someone at Heathrow on Monday, they gave me a boarding pass back to GLA and said the remainder of my ticket was left active, and I could phone my TA later to discuss refund/rebooking options.
At this point, my booking in the BA app showed as:
GLA-LHR (BA) 31 July
LHR-DFW (BA) 31 July
LHR-GLA (BA) 31 July
DFW-LHR (AA) 3 August
LHR-GLA (BA) 4 August
Called the corporate TA today and things initially sounded positive, said fare rules should apply which would either mean a cancellation and refund of taxes only, or a rebooking to a future date/destination for £50 + any fare difference.
The TA then called the BA Trade Desk who confirmed what the airport actually did was take the 4th sector on my coupon (LHR-GLA) and just moved that to 31 July. Because the segments had been used out of sequence, the ticket was now invalid, and only a refund of taxes on the two unused long haul segments was permitted.
Hindsight being 20/20, the better thing to do would have been to purchase a separate one-way back to GLA on Monday, but the reassurance from the BA rep at Heathrow that “the remainder of your ticket is intact and has been left active” led me to think the ticket would be salvageable. Unfortunately there were no notes left on the booking to that effect so the trade desk were not willing to budge on the fare rules.
Had I been firing on all cylinders I might have probed this further before accepting the return to Glasgow. But hopefully this experience proves useful to someone in the future.
Question for the experts here: this trip, together with the remainder of my booked travel before the end of my TP reset year would have seen me reach Gold for the first time. As things now stand, with the 60TPs I have been awarded from this week, and the rest of my booked travel plans, I’ll now finish the year on 1490. What are the chances of applying for ORC? I’m guessing zero given this was a voluntary change? If so, looks like a weekend trip to London before 7th October might be on the cards.
