I'm booked on a United mileage ticket including A3 flights ATH-ARN-xxx with A3 the first operating carrier for the day. The A3 website says I'm entitled to just 1 bag as a *G member. So United mileage tickets book into Economy Light on A3 apparently?

Website says:
Total Baggage Pieces: 1
1 Free (Gold Member) up to 23kg

So it seems my only free bag is coming from *G status. It doesn't matter to me as I'm only checking one. But I thought *A award tickets were booked as regular economy fares which even on LH group carriers come with a free checked bag.

I would think my *G status should be getting me two free bags on A3.
