Rebooking policy for day of departure cancellation?
Hello,
I've been a member of a Facebook group (10xTravel) where I've read about AF/KL day of departure cancellations (due to weather or operational reasons), and Air France/KLM refusing to rebook passengers with award bookings unless there is available award inventory on the alternate flights. In some cases, AF/KL Flying Blue advised the passenger to cancel the award booking to get the miles/taxes refund, and to buy a separate last minute cash ticket to get home as soon as possible.
In my years of travel, I have experienced a few cancellations, and the airlines (AA primarily) have always rebooked me into any available revenue seat on the next available flight, even when booked in an award seat.
I've tried looking up the official rebooking policy on AF/KL Flying Blue's website, but there is nothing mentioned about what they will do for award bookings in the event of a cancellation due to weather or operational reasons.
Does anyone know where to find their written policy on rebooking award seats in the event of a cancellation due to weather or operational reasons?
I am planning on booking some award travel for 2024 with my Flying Blue miles, but this undocumented policy to not rebook award reservations into any available revenue seat concerns me.
Just looking for any experience that anyone here has had, and if there are any recommended phrases to use when talking to Flying Blue to get rebooked easily.
Thanks!
