I don't doubt that you are right about this. I just wasn't aware of it. As a customer I felt it was a disappointing experience. What chance do I even have to check whether a suite is available in the right "pool"? There may be one that I am not aware of. I had no idea whether the hotel was playing games or not and I definitely didn't feel valued as a loyal Bonvoy customer.
Unfortunately, you won't know - it has worked in my favor sometimes with SNAs clearing for suites that aren't available on the website. However, based on the previous reports of this property's attitudes, it is disappointing that they weren't more generous towards you. Hopefully, they realize that being withholding just generates ill will and poor reviews.
