I am looking at car rental options at Tel Aviv/Ben Gurion Airport for next summer and am considering Hertz vs. Avis. Normally, I have used Hertz which is convenient because their rental office is in the parking lot just outside the arrivals terminal. However, the prices for next summer are simply outrageous -- 50% to 100% more expensive than rentals for the same dates at Avis.

I understand that Avis uses a shuttle from the arrivals terminal to the rental office, which is less convenient. But in my experience the Hertz office is a zoo and takes forever as well, so having to take a shuttle might not be that big of a difference in terms of waiting and the time needed to be on the road with the car.

Does anyone have any recent experience using Avis and the shuttle? Is it well run, or a mess? Would you do it again?
