Lots of folks pile on to avek00. But it should also tell us something that he is so frequently at the center of these controversies -- whether any particular post is over the line or not.
My hope when Randy shared that he had timed out avek00 was that it wouldn't just be a 'punishment' for him -- but that it would be time and space for the rest of the board, so that when avek00 returned folks would have enough distance from past posts to be able to coexist more peacefully.
Maybe that will NEVER happen -- maybe avek00 could be gone for a year and if he came back folks would start back up again. But my hope was that a brief respite would let animosities die down.
I do think that 5 days or so is insufficient for the above possibility to take hold, and I think we're seeing that. I think Randy once described a time out as being as much to put a member in "protective custody" as much as anything else. I think that's really needed here.
Sure, lots of folks need a talking to. And maybe even some additional suspensions. But I'd like to think that avek00 would take a bit of a light touch upon coming back... and recognize that there are things that could be said by others that will get much more of a (and much different of a) reaction coming from him because of his posting history.
History is a very difficult thing to escape.</font>
Yes they pile onto him simply because so many of his posts are over the line. He claims to be against the constant flaming of his posts. The fact is he revels in it and he has no intention of meeting others halfway and toning down his comments. After all, that would deprive him of the attention he craves.
His nonsensical use of the words "terrorism" and "war on terror" above to describe the flaming is yet another example. He knows many FTers have lost friends as a result of real terrorism and it's simply another attempt to stir it up.
