Mini Review
I had a 2 night stay here 2 weeks ago and wanted to just share my thoughts. I managed to happen upon a cheap points rate so ended up using that as the basic rooms were going for $1,500+/night. I have a rule about places with mixed reviews to use points first then see if it's worth it to pay cash in the future.
The hotel is physically gorgeous, very impressive and has all of the 5-star Waldorf glamour you could want. The front door/outside staff was consistently excellent, at all times no less than 5-10 people out there to greet you, take care of you, open the door etc. When requesting my car from valet it was never more than a 3-4 minute wait with a fresh cold bottle of water added etc, so no complaints here. They do have a strange hedge thing set up in front of the 'main' door, but there is another set of doors that are disregarded for whatever reason.
However, this is where the great service ended, I did get a modest upgrade to a Deluxe room on a high floor with a nice view which was nice, however I was starting to get suspicious of the cash-booking vs. points-booking differences. There were 2 other groups checking in at the same time as me, both got a proper escort to the elevator and I assume their room, I received my keys and was pointed in the direction of the elevators and was not asked about any sort of escort or anything like that.
The room is very nice, quite luxe in what I would qualify as a Beverly Hills style. The balcony was absolutely massive and had a wonderful Beverly Hills view. The biggest gripe I had with the room was that there were several small amenities missing as in a missing bottle opener and corkscrew, and the shower was woefully bad. I really don't know if this is an American thing, but why are the showerheads always so poor and weak with water pressure? Anyway, the room was well designed I felt overall and the bed was supremely comfortable.
The biggest issue was that in a full 3 day stay, I only got housekeeping really 1/2 of a time. I had requested turn down service which only consisted of them closing the curtains. I had showered earlier and it was still wet from that and towels were not even replaced. The bed was exactly the same and there was not even any chocolates or anything like that. The next day I was informed that I had to request housekeeping through the iPad, so I did so. The requests were available in 2 hour intervals. I chose one and went on my way. I was gone for nearly 5 hours and returned to a completely untouched room. I then headed to the pool area which was very excellent. After about an hour I returned to my room to find it about halfway done. Missing toilet roll, shower not wiped down but bed made and towels replaced. I then headed to dinner and requested another turn down service which never transpired. I know that Hilton has made major cutbacks with housekeeping and such, but for a hotel at this level and for that price, I was very surprised at the lack of service.
All in all, I didn't find the hotel worth it, it was definitely style over substance. I do have my sneaking suspicions about me being treated worse as a points guest, but that shouldn't be the case at a place like this. If I had paid cash for the stay I would have been extremely annoyed at how poor the service was.
I tried just the bar at the new restaurant and it was excellent as was the rooftop restaurant. Hope this helps everyone!
