Still probably a few years from that unfortunately. QR is trying to get WB (RwandAir) into OneWorld and will give that much needed intra-Africa coverage but as of now it's still just a partner of QR. Losing BA's Comair franchise in South Africa certainly hurt but wouldn't have helped you in any case as their international network was quite limited. AT isn't much help intra-Africa either since Morocco is counted as Europe and their Africa network isn't very strong either.

I'm putting African on my next DONEx for this winter and would love to hop around a bit but just not an option at the moment, so I'll use a ground segment there, fly QR into EBB and out of NBO. Then just use Avios for some WB flights in the region since business class flights intra-Africa are quite expensive, even a lot of economy is pretty expensive.
