On the heels of the Bilt promo that was widely abused, Hyatt probably saw a massive rush of people trying to get Globalist for cheap before the MGM deal ended, and asked MGM to put an end to it. There's no way the timing, after all these years, is a coincidence.
“Hey MGM, all these guests we’re charging you for are low value scammers. We made it way too easy to re-qualify for status and now, after the promo has ended, regret it. Can you create a whole bunch of work for yourself by turning off mobile check in and dealing with the fallout. We of course won't use our own resources or ban the members.”
Considering other reporting on the subject, and my own personal work experience, I stand by my position.
