Just booked some coach awards on JAL using both AA and AS miles. The extra legroom seats are completely blocked during seat selection on JAL website. If I attempt to make a paid booking on JAL website, the extra legroom seats are available to me free of charge due to my OW Emerald status. Is this a known thing with parter awards? If I call in will they seat me in extra leg room seats without fee?
Might have found the answer to my first question on JAL website:
Passengers who purchase or change airline tickets at other than JAL website and who meet following condition cannot purchase this service at JAL website. There are other conditions besides the following, please contact JAL call center to purchase.
As there are other conditions except for the below condtions, please contact JAL call center if you would like to purchase it.
・In case passenger purchased ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
Example : Purchase ticket departing from Japan at call center in America.
The tickets are one-way originating in JP, booked in US.
