July 2023

Booked in for six nights and checked out after two nights. All you need to know to understand this property is that both when I informed the front desk staff and when I actually checked out, nobody inquired as to why I was leaving early.

Arrived in my car at the hotel, which has no doorman or valet (and never saw either during my 2+ days). Zero signage as to what to do up arrival. Learned I was meant to just double park my car in front and bring the keys to reception and someone would tend to it. Who knew?

Indifferent reception staff with no French used. Quick and functional but hardly warm and welcoming. Was told with some sense of pride they'd put me on the fifth floor. I imagined views! Well, as the hotel is built on a hill, the 5th floor is actually the first floor on the back and my view was a parking lot with those walking down the street able to look into my room.

At this time (July 2023), they were upgrading the HVAC so there was no central heat or AC. Two large space heaters were put in my room as substitutes.

As noted in the original review, the tv/entertainment mostly did not work and what they offered was very outdated and limited. The tv in the bathroom did not work at all. I reported it immediately and checking out two days later it had not been fixed.

And both nights when I went out for dinner, I put on the light for turn-down evening service. It happened neither night.

All this for NZ$500+ per night.

Lots of other options in the city. This hotel is riding on its brand and its central location, neither of which are worth the cost, in my experience.
