Is it necessary for elite members to ask to be given something in lieu of the free wifi? Is there a specific clause that should be quoted in case the front desk agent doesn’t know the guideline? Thank you.

So seems to me they're in full compliance with the settlement here. Since this says it includes Wi-Fi, elite members who get free Wi-Fi anyway should also be getting an extra few points added on to compensate for that, per the Bonvoy T&Cs.
