While not Friday, I'm grateful for the collective wisdom on FT today. Having learned to amass avíos, they came in handy just now. The boy is travelling up to Texas and was on route to IAH connecting at MTY. All smooth until he and a few others were waiting in line for Vivaaerobus at 6am. He'd been up all night in airport and waiting near gate. They kept changing the gates, which has happened to me there before and didn't make it clear. He and a few others were denied boarding for "having not followed the instructions" and moved to another gate. They were told next flight tonight is full and to buy new tickets as not the airline's fault. No point arguing with budget airlines, but I'm guessing likely now they're on the hook under new Mexican laws for IDB payments, they're cooking up any possible excuse to deal with oversold flights. The others were livid too.
Well, long story short, within 2 mins of his 5.45am phone call, I'd logged into BA and found an Avíos flight to DFW (his final destination anyway). It was in business as no economy fares available, but it did save us a bit on the AA cash price of 3000 USD one way.
90 quid and 10600 avíos seems like quite a deal to get out of a corner. Only other options were 700 USD on another LCC. If it wasn't for this FT, I'd have never thought to check points tickets just a few hours before nor to have a stash for such events. Very grateful for everyone here and their wisdom..
By 6.10 he was in a cafe having some enchiladas and a coffee. Dread to think what the other poor people are doing.
Happy fri.... Sunday
