I agree. To me it is clear from Citi's Terms and Conditions that one needs only to earn 50 or 90 LP during the status year (rather than while holding the card) in order to trigger the bonus. Plus, we've had at least one, maybe more reports above of new cardholders receiving the 10k bonuses.

Nonetheless, if it is a point people are confused about, sure let's add it to the summary (along with a correction to the first triggering LP threshold, which is 50k not 60k as I originally wrote). Proposed revisions in red:

  • You are entitled to a 10k bonus if you surpass the 50k and/or 90k LP threshold by any means -- i.e. this is not limited to LPs earned by spend on your credit card. (For the current status year, it is still possible to earn a 10k bonus based on credit card spend, as set forth here)
  • You must meet, or have met, these thresholds sometime during the current status year. It does not matter if you were a cardholder at the time you crossed the threshold.
  • Citi has not published any official information about when such 10k bonuses will post to your AA account
  • Based on reports here to date, it seems that once you've crossed the 50k or 90k LP threshold, the actual posting of the bonus is triggered by either (a) the closing of your current statement, or (b) a flight or other LP-earning activity (e.g. shopping portal), whichever comes first
  • However, in the case of (b), some bonuses are not posting correctly, and others have posted as being earned, but the points have not been added to people's balances.
