Definitely just put everything on the room then at check-out just ask them to put X amount on your Apire card and Y amount on your wife's card. 100% chance of success this way.
Over the years I've split hotel bills across different credit cards at check-out for various reasons and it's never a problem.
Otherwise IME sometimes it can take 2-3 days for a pending charge to move to posted, and the pending name doesn't always line up with what's ultimately posted.
