And another data point, for an upcoming SQ flight LH flight SIN-EU within a few days, roughly 1/4 of the J cabin is "empty". Can't check the details right now, because EF is "down", though, this did not happen just a month ago when SQ was solidly booked in J on that route.
With EF back online, I can confirm for a whole week, except for 2 days, J availability SIN-EU is >=30% of the J cabin. And the 2 exception days, it's > 20%.
Doing the same check for CX and it gives even worse figures, >30% availability for every day, with 2 days around 50% unoccupied seats.
We really entered the age where the (J class) demand is significantly lower than the seats available. And, that in the EU holiday peak season.
Or so to say: Airlines: Do you want to fly around empty airplanes, or do you want to sell seats?
For me, I just book the cheapest (acceptable) tickets available, and have dropped the importance of "loyalty". How to alienate a carefully build loyalty audience and effectively kill your loyalty program????
