I have done it before, taking a work laptop with me on a 3 week holiday as a 'just in case'.

I do find it quite confusing because normally it's not recommended due the risk of battery overheating and causing a fire, but there was also a period a few years ago when the US and UK were only allowing laptops to be in checked luggage (and banned from carry on) for flights from the Middle East.
