From my recent experience, I brought my VISA and AMEX card for this trip to China, when you pay offline like in stores, 50% of chance you can't use both cards. Even for some international brands. WeChat/Alipay is almost required when you trying to call Uber (DiDi), restaurants, or local stores, even when you try to order online for Starbuck or KFC.

The good thing is now you can link you foreign credit card to Wechat.
