I've never flown JAL before so didn't realise that the seat selection is so tricky, I'd happily pay the exit row seat fee but won't even show me that option. Certainly frustrating when paying a premium over other airlines.
N is one of the very cheap booking classes, and comes with quite a few restrictions. M is on the rather pricey end of the scale. That makes the difference.
I have not tried, as I am eligible for free advance selection. But this is the flow for extra legroom seats.
