I booked flights with JAL yesterday through Flight Centre (Australia) for MEL-NRT-ITM/NRT-MEL. I don't usually use agents but had been given a voucher, before booking I'd checked the seat map by doing a flight search on the JAL site and lots of seats available for the MEL-NRT sector (JL774) however when booking the agent couldn't see many at all so I just figured I'd select online afterwards.

I've been able to easily select seats on the NRT-ITM and NRT-MEL sectors however the MEL-NRT sector still shows most seats unavailable, my preference is a window seat however only a few aisle or middle seats are showing to select. With a dummy booking there is even some exit row paid seats showing but I can't even select these. I'll try calling JAL call centre when they open in a few hours but thought I'd ask here if anyone knows what is happening or any tricks to get a decent seat. Flight is JL774 on 20th October.
