It warms my heart to hear such reviews, as much for the city as for the hotel.

6 years of my rascally yoof were spent in Manchester, leaving me with a love for the place despite its quirks and flaws. So I love to hear world travellers such as you and Nicholas75 going there for fun, and enjoying it.

The hotel sums up the new Manchester very well, to me. The shell of a hugely grand building from the city’s first heyday, reused and scrubbed for the modern age. The public areas are wonderfully ornate but there are also some odd and unpolished corners too.

On my last visit there were two (maybe even three?) whites for social hour.

And I also had a very strangely laid-out room (junior suite?) with just two small windows…each framing a view of the huge skyscrapers at the other end of Whitworth Street. Lovely.
