Caution?

I received a new passport on July 21 so went in that day to update the new info (for an international flight booked July 16 using my AA Gold elite number). The AA number disappeared after I saved the passport info. Confirming email on the date of booking showed the AA number (and I initially saw it in the resv). Spent well over an hour on the phone and chat--they could do nothing. Suggested I wait until after the flight and see if AA would credit the miles (didn't address the upgraded seat and free checked bag perks). Cancelled and rebooked with another OW airline. So glad I noticed before the flight.
