A friend using a newly issued EU passport (which never works at T5 - old passport worked fine) was told that post-Brexit there are some delays in the UK receiving decryption keys, so while the chip seems to be OK, e-gates can't read it. The passport reportedly works fine elsewhere in Europe and Asia.
