You are exactly right travis bickle. The card fee is the same whether any of the fringes are taken advantage of or not, therefore if it is used for business charges it is deductible as a business expense or employee business expense on schedule A. This is no different than deducting the full cost of the air fare on a business trip, but getting the miles tax free.
The club membership is specifically prohibited as a deduction even if used 100% for business, however additional specific costs for usage of meeting rooms, etc. are deductible if they meet the requirements of section 274 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Thus if a deduction is what one is after.....go with the AMEX card.
