I tried to change an award flight forward one day (Friday to Saturday) within the 24 hour window I booked the original award and it would not let me use the change button as I would get an error saying no flights were available. I was worried Avios wouldn't redeposit immediately to book the new award date (there is availability I have confirmed) if I cancelled and the phone center was closed at the time.
Does anyone have experience with BA's Exec Club/Avios related booking team waiving the $55/ticket fee if I were to call in first thing?
Update: I called in, no status but only waited about 10 min on hold. A very nice agent said she could not make the change for me without paying the $55/ticket fee but mentioned she could cancel and have the Avios redeposited at no cost. Will receive the taxes/fees cash refund usually within 5 business days. Avios were redeposited immediately so I rebooked the date I needed.
She mentioned something about a "cooling off" period to get a free refund that was longer than the usual 24 hour cancellation period.
