We just did 2x 2x windows+aisle a few days ago on the A350ULR. It was easily the most ideal option where you need to reach over to family. Being able to use the same aisle plus lean over to see and talk (the window and aisle seats are slightly offset - use it to your advantage) was far more beneficial than having to crane over the partition in the middle of the aisle seats.

Moreover, with the way the tray opens out from the partition side and how the leg cubbyhole makes you sit, it's really not feasible to reach over the partition easily, even with the divider fully retracted.
