In sum, UA is drawing down SFO-ICN to one daily, not resuming HNL-NRT at this time (UA's phrasing), relaunching LAX-HKG, adding a second daily SFO-TPE and (re-)introducing SFO-MNL non-stop once daily. A welcome but overall modest increase which also rebalances service to where they need it.

Quayle seems not to be aware that UA used to serve MNL via SEL/NRT/TPE at various times before switching to non-stop from SFO in 1998 only to drop it in the same year when the Asian Financial Crisis hit. As bmwe92fan stated earlier I believe, there were also concerns about terrorist activity in PH which may have been a factor in dropping the route.
