Perhaps the police force who are looking for this ‘wanted criminal’ only have sketchy details? Life is rarely as portrayed on TV or in the cinema and the idea that a few button pushes on a police computer will throw up the full name, date of birth, passport number and inside leg measurement is unbelievably far fetched. A passport number is very unlikely to be known and it might be that the name and date of birth are not completely correct. Hence why the eGate doesn’t want to make the decision but it’s an easy decision for the guy on the desk.
In relation to other countries systems, (the post below) someone who is being monitored by the U.K. police, let’s say someone who is on the sex offenders register as an example, then it’s of no interest to Australia’s border control so they won’t be on their list. The U.K. police would only be interested coming back into the U.K. Hence why someone might have issues coming into the U.K. but not into Luxembourg, Australia or Iceland.
It’s a fair point about the passport quality. Unfortunately they’ve been outsourced from the U.K. and are made in Poland, maybe their quality control isn’t as good?
I understand this, however is any one able to explain why is it seemingly not possible to update the system once you have been manually checked? My old and new passports have never worked at E-gates and I have been manually checked hundreds of times . I know this is because they are looking for someone else . Surely once I have been checked and associated with my passport the system could learn that I am not if interest ?
