I was told booking through the Chase travel portal, you do not qualify, as Expedia does the booking and it’s 3rd party.
But if I use AMEX points on their portal, is that also considered 3rd party to Marriott?
it’s a mixed bag if you book the room under Fine Hotels and Resorts (some get the points and elite nights while some don’t, it’s really YMMV. No consistent msg from Marriott on this). As for bookings under regular Amex Travel, the answer is definitely no as the booking is made under Expedia which is an OTA (you will get points and elite nights if you book through third party full service travel agencies).
