No one added this fact but since the pandemic Hawaii hotel prices have skyrocketed and it is now at least 3-4 times more expensive there to have vacation compared to pre-COVID.
Even if the flights from/to Japan are similarly priced; an average Japanese tourist would not spend $400-500 per night for a 4 star resort in Hawaii, just to pay $30-40 + tax + tip per meal at a resort where prices at Southeastern Asia are much lower and the hotels over there have better quality and service.
