Not surprising, considering HAL has yet to return to profitability since the end of the pandemic, although that is in part due to the entry of WN to the Hawaiian market. Another one has bit the dust on HNL-TYO flying. With the DOT's rejection of Delta's proposal to move its HNL/PDX-HND slots, Delta may decide to discontinue HNL-TYO flying permanently. HAL has not even fully resumed HNL/KOA-HND flying yet. The decline of HNL-Japan flying, which once featured multiple 747-400s daily, even to KIX, is an allegory of how far Japan has fallen relatively speaking economically.
