Oh these secondary screenings have been going on for US-bound US Airlines since the various PA and TW hijackings bombings and airport attacks in the 1980's. Karachi, Athens, Rome, Frankfurt, London. At least the airlines got rid of the giant "Security" stickers they used to plaster all over checked in luggage. Answering a few questions for frequent travelers sometimes seem pointless, but at least in one case a woman flying on LY LHR-TLV responded to security questions that she was checking in a suitcase was packed by her boyfriend. That contained a bomb. Realistically US Airlines, and the likes of El AL, are historical targets of terrorists.
Back to UA!!
