With all the recent long-haul additions and the absolute silence around this flight, not terribly surprising. I was surprised when UA announced resuming 3X daily GUM-NRT (albeit all 738, pre-covid one flight was a 777) and thought maybe there is some hope. But apparently not.

The underwhelming recovery of Japan-originating tourists mean PlusPoints are still a reliable upgrade on ANA, albeit not from UA's R fare. I really didn't think UA would renew the route this year, requiring commitment of a/c and crews. ANA still has plenty of ability to add capacity. I think UA permanently abandons the route, leaving partner ANA to pick up any future increase in demand.
When NH bought the Skymark A380s didn't they say they would be operating only on TYO-HNL? I remember wondering at that time if the market could absorb the capacity and what it could mean for UA's HNL-NRT. So the two international non-hub wide body flights are gone again: BOS-LHR and HNL-NRT.
