I had this exact same issue with an award ticket yesterday, and due to many on here recommending reaching out to the AA Twitter team for help correcting the mileage mistake that was the route I went. It took about 30 minutes for them to respond.

I wrote a short message explaining what happened and also uploaded screenshots of the first email I got from AA confirming the award reservation was on hold for 12k miles (On hold until 11:59pm July 22nd) and then uploaded a second screenshot of the confirmation email after ticketing the award about 10-minutes after placing on hold with the price now being 14,500 miles. I asked the agent to please adjust and refund the 2,500 miles back to my Aadvantage account.

The Twitter rep refused to honor the 12k miles *even with* the photo evidence and insisted the mileage was 14,500. I’ve had equally bad luck with the AA chat support on the app.

Lastly, this was a one-way domestic Y ticket and I was charged $11.20. Perhaps I missed something but aren’t one-way domestic Y awards $5.60 in taxes & fees?
