People need to stop accepting things like this as "new policy" and reject it. Nonsense like saying the hotel can do whatever it wants or not on whatever terms it wants in any way is nonsense. Such an interpretation makes any benefits functionally void because it's basically null if the "benefit" is literally defined as some amount of benefit between 0 and infinity at the sole discretion of the hotel. This would effectively convert the program benefits into being meaningless and a giant fraud. I frankly reject the attempt to in practice make the upgrade benefit that the hotel can give you any room it wants or doesn't want to based on functionally nonsensical and illogical conditions like more expensive bigger better view rooms are "worse" because today the hotel doesn't feel like giving it to you.

There is a difference between the hotel honoring the terms and not demanding things beyond them, and there is a whole other level of trying to say that the terms means anything they feel like giving you on any given day is meeting their obligations to a customer that explicitly has met significant spending/staying obligations to earn "nothing or something, maybe". Customers need to refuse to accept this kind of abject BS at the front desk instead of just throwing their hands up and saying "oh well I guess complete lack of any benefits is just their new policy. Oh well."
