I personally don’t see what’s so terrible about a T5 to T5 connection at LHR — especially when you take into account the short cuts described on the BA forum if you’re just going from T5B to T5B, for example — and I actually like taking two shorter flights (as long as I can get a fullish nights sleep on the longer leg) than one incredibly long flight. I appreciate the walking and change of scene between the flights. So that’s from my perspective: others may disagree.
you have no hope of getting a night's sleep by flying via LHR.
JFK to LHR is only around 6 hours in the air, you'll get 5 hours AT MOST, and thats optimistic.
LHR to TLV, same story, but even shorter useful rest period.

TLV. I think your finding a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

A NYC to TLV flight is hardly "incredibly long" by today's standards. 10 to 11 hours is a normal long haul flight.

As for having BA Gold status, so what?
If already flying in Biz class, and only doing the 3 or 4 NYC to Israel trips the benefits of that status are almost entirely negated.

If your lucky and get BA's new J, hooray for you. Except, it's narrow and nothing revolutionary. But the time it's rolled out en-masse, it'll be old.
LY's 787 biz class is way better than any crap BA can offer. LY's hard product is much better than BA.

NYC to LHR and LHR to TLV are both extremely high yield routes, there's no reason that BA would either A) compete on price for connecting pax, B) want to forgot profit to capture connecting pax.
they're making a lot more money selling the same seat twice for $4,500 than once for $3,900.

LY usually pretty competitive with pricing to and from USA in my experience. They give Delta, United and American a run for their money- and offer a great premium product in my opinion .
