Either way you'd have everyone at their destination by 400pm, not 700am the NEXT DAY.
Is it the captain's decision to choose a diversion destination or does he/she take orders from Dispatch have input?
The point I was trying to make is that the crews in PDX were on there FAA mandated leagal rest after an international flight, the company can not use them. None of them could be used to work this flight and the pilots are certified on a different AC type, A330 and not the DC10. Besides PDX is not a base, we do not have flight crew staff there.
