I have purchased Delta business class seats on the PDX to NRT route many times because of the convenience of going to sleep immediately on the outbound flight and landing at home on the return flight, but would not consider flying Delta with a connection in SEA. Once forced to board a short connecting flight, SEA and YVR offer a large number of Asian airlines flying to Tokyo and elsewhere in Asia with competitive pricing and better inflight services. Delta has one of the least valuable frequent flyer programs and lower quality international business class lounges. The demand for nonstop Delta flights in Portland is higher than the demand for connecting Delta flights. It looks like Delta wants to abandon the Portland market to Asia.
