That aside, was the stated refund amount matching your expectation? If not, that would have been your cue to ask for clarification/ confirmation that all segments were being booked into J/F rather than assuming so.
The refund was actually about $10 less than I was expecting (i.e. ticket was $10 more expensive than I was expecting). In other words, no, I wasn't charged less than I was expecting, which would have clued me into something being wrong. I chalked this up to a math error on my part, or perhaps a ticketing fee of some kind, but I don't understand how switching a segment from first to economy comfort would make the ticket more expensive.
