Asking Delta to fix an agent mistake
I had an existing booking for MSP-CDG-HEL (roundtrip) booked in premium economy. I found a decent fare for MSP-ORD-CDG-HEL in J, and I tried to change my booking to this online yesterday. To no surprise, Delta.bomb errored out when trying to make the change, so I messaged Delta through chat to make the change. My specific request was "On the outbound, I would like to change to DL 2109, DL 8417, and DL 8492 in Business Class." The agent then replied (54 minutes later) that "As per checking, I have here your desired flights and there will be a refund of $xx.xx, including all taxes and carrier imposed fees." I instructed the agent to make the change.
Once I received the e-mail confirmation, I noticed that the MSP-ORD segment was booked in economy comfort, not first. The agent made no mention of this, and the itinerary I had pulled up online (the one that errored out) showed this segment in F. I have screenshots of this, thankfully.
I have made several attempts to chat and call with Delta to ask me to switch me to F on this segment. I've asked for supervisors. All have continually refused, since they say that I only paid for economy comfort on this segment. My point is: I requested to book business, the agent responded to basically say "switching to business will cost $x," and I agreed to the charge. It was only after the purchase that I discovered that I didn't get what I asked to buy.
This is not a "he said, she said," since this was all done over chat. I have screenshots to prove the above, and I'm sure that Delta does too. I don't know how this segment was only booked in economy comfort, but somehow it was. I didn't ask for that, and the itinerary that I looked at online (the one I tried to book myself) didn't show this segment in economy comfort. I didn't have any ability to preview the booking before the changes were made.
On ExpertFlyer, the MSP-ORD flight shows as: "J8 C8 D6 I0 Z0 W9 S9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q0K0 L0 U0 T0 X0 V0 E9," and the seat map matches this. There seems to be no shortage of F space on this segment.
Delta will sell me an F ticket on this segment for a couple hundred bucks. I'm also a Delta Plat so there is an approximately a 0.5% chance that I get upgraded on this flight.
So FT mind, what would you do? Continue to pester Delta up the food chain to try to get the F space? Or cut my losses and hope for a cold day in hell for a medallion upgrade?
