FWIW on 01 July 2023 AA swapped aircraft from 787-9 to 787-8 for AA 728 PHL-LHR at the last minute (from our perspective). We were a family of 3 traveling on the flight. My home pre-printed BPs were no longer functional/accurate for either seat assignments nor did they work for boarding the aircraft (they had to be reprinted). We originally had MCE Seat assignments which were shuffled/changed with the aircraft change - with one being moved back to main cabin and one moving to a center seat in MCE. It appeared that at least two pax lost on the musical chairs and had to deplane with their luggage to be rebooked.

Your situation is never fun. It's helpful to download the AA App for situations like these. You can refresh the boarding pass right there, and reassign seats proactively. That way, you are not at the mercy of whatever is left when you get to the gate.
