You don't earn points on a cash + points booking thru Marriott. It is one of the huge downsides of cash+points. Also a lot of times those stays don't count toward a lot of promotions like the most recent double elite night credit promo. I usually avoid booking cash+points for those reasons.
Sometimes cash and points bookings can be better value than either cash or points only, but indeed take into account not earning any points and possibly missing out on promos.
As an example, cash rate around 330 euro, points 50K, cash and points 25K plus 95 euro. Arguably cash vs cash and points is marginal here considering you'll earn a lot of points on the cash rate if you are at least Platinum (and assuming a 0.8c per point valuation).
